Mike Delejewski Black Surf pays homage to 90s US power pop. While Weezer's influence is apparent, "Let's Pretend It's Summer" is much more expansive and exactly the type of album I had dearly hoped for from Weezer after Blue and Pinkerton. Bloody well done. Favorite track: Sink.

about

Ali Epstone (Vocals/Guitar)

Phil Jones (Lead Guitarist) and I were in our first band together, at school. We spent the next ten years in different bands (Mishkin, I Swim With Sharks among others), but we always said we’d write an album together one day.
I was out in Australia, when Phil sent me about 30 demo’s and said “write to five of 'em, we're starting a band”. The first track we wrote was ‘Army of Sheep’ and we both instantly fell in love with the potential of what could and would become Black Surf.
On Bass and Drums we recruited ex Mishkin members and childhood friends, Tom Ramsden and Mark Forster and recorded ‘Let’s Pretend It’s Summer’. Mark had commitments to his band ‘Beyond All Reason’ and had to jump ship.
The very next day, I was working in a bar and met session drummer, Tom Moore and snapped him up. I hadn’t even heard Tom play, but based on his tattoo’s, facial hair and strong instant bromance alone, he was our guy.

We proudly welcome you to hear this two year process, in this fourteen track, deluxe edition of Let’s Pretend It’s Summer.
It’s basically everything we’ve recorded up until now. This album explores both the yin and yang, light and dark sides of Black Surf. It’s a complete melting pot of influences and shameless, random experimental risks.
The band is either fuelled on coffee and cigarettes, or yoga and meditation and this comes across on this record, musically and lyrically for sure
We wanted to put a stamp on this style and sound before we really get to work on the new album, next year.

Right now we’re writing our debut album, which we’ll record at Greenmount Studios, again, in Leeds, in early Feb 2017.
We look forward to getting stuck into touring the record, early next year.
